SOCIALIZING - LINGUISTIC SKILLS

  • The project encouraged English language learning and intercultural dialogue, communication, team work. Children used English language as an effective communication tool for sharing thoughts, suggestions, ideas and emotions. Every activity that they undertook during the project provided them an opportunity to learn more words, phrases, expressions... In a classroom, there is very little time to practice speaking but this experience gave everyone enough meaningful practice.

Since pupils in Serbian school learn French as their second language this experience allowed them to hear native speakers and check if they understand them and even talk to them. They've heard and learnt the informal expressions and slang that native speakers use all the time. They've learnt about French culture, how people interact, their sense of humour, their customs and values, etc. It was a wonderful way to learn the real spoken language of one great nation.

During the final phase oh the project, spending seven days in France, pupils participated in the day-to-day life of a host family, effectively becoming another member of that family. During our stay pupils participated in several team building activities so they could get to know each other even better, learning the true meaning of the word team player. They returned home at the end of the exchange having formed long-lasting bonds with their hosts and with many new friendships.
