Giannis Stavrou was born in 1948. He is a contemporary painter. He comes from a naval family. He lived in Thessaloniki and the city influenced his subjects. His works are shiny with color coatings.
In his painting he searches for color more than the subject.

    Osman Hamdi Bey(1842/.....)

Osman Hamdi Bey, (born 1842, Constantinople, Ottoman Empire [now Istanbul, Tur.]—died Feb. 23, 1910, Constantinople), Ottoman statesman, painter, and art expert who put forth legislation aimed at regulating finds made by various archaeological enterprises in the Ottoman Empire and preventing the antiquities from being smuggled abroad.

Hamdi Bey founded the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul and became its director in 1881. His taste and energy did much to establish the reputation of the museum and its impressive collection of Greco-Roman antiquities. Included among the treasures that he secured for the museum are the famous Greek sarcophagi found in the royal necropolis at Sidon (now in Lebanon) in 1887. These are outstanding examples of Greek art of the 5th and 4th centuries BCE and are perfectly preserved. The magnificent “Alexander” sarcophagus (so named because it was originally believed to be that of Alexander the Great) even retains traces of its original colouring. Hamdi Bey’s account of the excavation, Une Nécropole royale à Sidon (“A Royal Necropolis at Sidon”), cowritten by Théodore Reinach, was published in 1892.

    Turtle Trainer

Turtle Trainer "Turtle Trainer" is one of Osman Hamdi's most interesting and original works. 1906 dated work, especially "Tulip Devri" "Sadabad Entertainment" at night to illuminate the gardens of the turtles on the ridges of the information that the candles were planted can be a clue. In other words, the "turtles" in the state order of the Ottoman Empire "kapıkulları" have been among the.

In the meantime, Hamdi Bey, who is an executive at the highest level of several Ottoman institutions (Sanay-i Nefise, Asar-ı Atika Museum, Duyun-u Umumiye, etc.) comes to mind an allegory about his / her business habits / behavior and his subordinates' approach. Osman Hamdi himself, the "maneuver" in his hand, raises a tabernacle of dervishane on his back on his thigh on his tongue, and oversees three turtles who eat their leaves forward.

The two remaining turtles are trying to approach the food. It is a picture that can be interpreted as a ruthless, hopeless satire against Osman Hamdi Bey's colleagues. What is important is that a picture that is illuminated by the light from the only light source in the lower part of the image is a very successful way of elaborating all kinds of unnecessary details, This is a masterpiece.

    Famous Painter: Pierre Seurat
    Famous Picture: Bathers at Asnieres

Georges-Pierre Seurat (1891) was a French post-impressionist  painter and draftsman.  He is noted for his innovative use of drawing media and for devising the painting techniques known as chromoluminarism and pointillism. Seurat's artistic personality was compounded of qualities which are usually supposed to be opposed and incompatible: on the one hand, his extreme and delicate sensibility; on the other, a passion for logical abstraction and an almost mathematical precision of mind.

We have chosen this painting because we can see in it people enjoying nature without pollution, with green meadows and clear water without polluting.
The painting allowed us to talk about the importance of care and reserve of the environmen

Famous Painter: Fikret Mualla . (1903-1967)
A Turkish painter who produced enthusiastically lyrical and sincere works uniting the stylistic features of Expressionism and Fauvism. Fikret Mualla Saygı was born in Istanbul and died in Nice, France on July 20, 1967. He was lame as the result of a childhood accident. That and his father’s subsequent remarriage following the death of his mother contributed to his difficult and maladjusted character as a child. Following education at Saint Joseph, a school of French origin, he attended Galatasaray High School for a certain period, but was sent to Germany to study engineering even before graduating. He travelled around Germany, went to Switzerland and Italy and visited museums in those countries. Once he realised his artistic ability, Mualla gained a sound knowledge of design within a short period of time. He made successful paintings, fashion drawings and engravings.

George Varlamos, was a famous Greek painter, which came from our district (Evia).

He was born in 1922 and died in 2013.He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts and continued his studies with scholarship in Paris, studying painting and engraving, where he specialized in bookart and especially in postage stamp engraving.

Varlamos loved and studied the laws of typography and book like no one before him.He was awarded for editing a poetry book by Neruda.

He admired  and praised beauty in a unique and insurmountable way which was expressed in his work  "wild flowers" and "Meteora".

Our students loved the way he had painted the wild flowers.

We chose two of them and tried to reproduct them:
