COLLABORATIVE PAINTING
The Portuguese school got inspired on the Estonian idea of creating a Graffiti and adapted it to an idea firstly planned as a curriculum task.
We tried to use the idea of outdoor learning and Art in the curriculum to the principles and Values of respect and cooperation.
1/ At the beginning of the year the Arts teachers proposed to their students from 9th grade the following individual work to be done at home and in class:
PAINTING - ANALYSIS OF THE LIFE AND WORK OF VARIOUS ARTISTS
1. Collect pictures of Paintings.
2. Analyse various Artists and their Works.
3. Reproduce the chosen painting in A3 paper
4. Use dry pastel / oil to make a reproduction that is similar to the real painting.
5. Interpret your painting using the collage technique
2/ After promoting the intention of doing a Grafitti, the idea of using the work students were already doing individually with evaluation purposes to a collaborative outdoor activity started to appear an added value to motivation and learning.
3/ So, after the teacher’s work proposal was completed, students started to get together to link their drawings and agree on a final one to do an outdoor wall painting in school. This is developing their sense of cooperation, respect and friendship.
4/ In Spring, students are going to start painting outside. This will be their mark in school as they are leaving to secondary school next year.
