Turkey - our values

  •        There are many values we mentioned, but some of them are very important for our culture and country. These are;

    1. PEACE:

    This value is more important than the others. We always talk, share and discuss with students about this value. We hold meetings at school for students to indicate the importance of this word. We prepare posters, wall stickers and draw pictures about peace. And also, we prepare presantation in order to teach, emphasize, underline… We always say Atatürk’s saying “ Peace at home, peace in the world”

    We try to teach to students that  “ peace for me, peace for us, peace for everyone, peace fort he planet “

    1. RESPECT:

    In Turkey, we have some respect rules. These  are family, old people and people with disabilities. We want all students to learn this value. Because it is very important for our culture and country. In order to teach that, we talk with students, tell some stories. Students draw pictures and hang on the wall. Our aim is in that value for students to grow up with the sense of respecting each other in the family, being respectful to elderly people and being respectful to people with disabilities.

    1. RESPONSIBILITY:

    Resbonsibilities are very important for us. We must fulfill our responsibilities. Because life consists of responsibilities. Becuse of that reason, students must learn their responsibilities. We talk them, we tell them and also we talk their parents about this value at the meetings at school. We want them to be awareness of these:  “I’m responsible for myself and I should do everything.” – “ I’m responsible for my family and I should do everything for us.” – “ I’m responsible for my marks with my teachers and I should do everything.” – “I’m responsible for my friends and I should do everything for us.” – “ I’m responsible for environment and I should do everything for environment.” – “I’m responsible for my homeland and I must do everything.” – “I’ll responsible for my job and I’ll work hard for it.”

    1. TOLERANCE:

    Tolerance is very important for our culture and country, too. We want students to be tolerance to everyone. We have meetings, competition about  tolerance in our city. We hang many quotes on the wall from Mevlana. Every year, we celebrate in all over the country on 17th December. We learn tolerance from Mevlana Celaddiin-i Rumi who is a 13th century Muslim saint and Anatolian mystic known throughout the world for his exquisite poems and words of wisdom, which have been translated into many languages. Rumi, as he is known in the west, is the best selling poet in USA. The United Nations declared 2007 The Year of Rumi and celebrations were held world wide. Mevlana looked with the same eye on Muslim, Jew and Christian alike. His peaceful and tolerant teachings have appealed to men of all sects and creeds. Pope John XXIII wrote a special message saying: “In the name of the Catholic World, I bow with respect before the memory of Rumi.” That is why this value is important. And also, there are seven advice of  Mevlana to all humanity;

    • In generosity and helping other be like a river
    • In compassion and grace be like a sun
    • In concealing other's faults be like night
    • In anger and fury be like dead
    • In modesty and humility be like earth
    • In tolerance be like a sea
    • Either exist as you are or be as you look.

    1. SOLIDARITY and COMPASSION:
    2. means that agreement  and support  between people  in a group who have similar aims or beliefs. Solidarity is very important for our students. We organize many organizations at school for solidarity.

    It gives power to the people. It makes it easier to feel empathy.  It helps people to swap information. It is good for cultural interaction.

    Compassion means that a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or bad luck of others and a wish to help them. Compassion is very important for our students, too.
