DAY 4: Thursday, February 22nd, 2018 - Day Four: Classroom Approaches to Working with Migrant Students - Not just language teaching!

  • Our facilitator today was the amazing practicing class teacher, Ivana Majcen, who was also a migrant student herself. Her experience of learning Slovenian as a language learner was an excellent example for all of us!

This is her presentation called 'Multiculturalism – Teacher's Role in the Integration Process of Immigrant Children „We can‘t teach what we don‘t know“ We found this day to be of great use for us both as Sean is a classroom teacher and Annie is the school's EAL teacher (English as an Additional Language). Sean found the approaches Ivana taught refreshing and will be able to use them in teaching Irish in the classroom as well.

Her lessons were practical and useful for all of us! This is the lesson plan for the TPR Lesson 'The Hungry Monster'...TPR is Total Physical Response, an approach to teach an additional language in a classroom setting or to language learners in a small group. It was so effective and we learned a lot of useful Slovenian phrases and vocabulary! Thanks, Ivana!!
