An exceptional sport history

  • For a small town, Onesti has a great sports club and a sports highschool with a long tradition in producing international gymnasts and not only. Our town produced many legendary heroes in the world of sports, especially gymnastics. They made history achieving high performances. It's a history with heroes, with athletes who stamped it with their biographies, with their exceptional deeds, a history of some coaches, of some trainers with a vocation, of some teachers of exception who have polished these diamonds as real jewelers do.

Nadia Comaneci, one of the world’s greatest gymnast, 'goddess of Montreal' who revolutionized the world of the gymnastics, says she owes 'a great deal' to the town she took off from to get the world glory:

''There I have learned to make my first steps, my first gymnastic exercises; there has started my way to success, to performance. I owe a lot to this town, this town which has successfully grown a lot of champions and to the local people too, 'to my people' the ones who have decided my destiny. There are many who, in one way or another, have helped me to become what I am today', the great champ says. There is a little monument dedicated to a giant sport's legend. It is situated right next to the gym where Nadia Comaneci made her first steps in gymnastics.
