RENS IN SPAIN

  • 1. My experience in Spain (first month)
It's very nice to see how close people can live together (on a global scale) and have such different cultures. For instance, the time the people in Spain have dinner and other meals is very different from the times people in the Netherlands have dinner and I like it a lot to see the differences and experience the advantages and disadvantages of them. The way the days is divided here is also a lot different form the division in the Netherlands. I think this is because school ends earlier and dinner is much later than in the Netherlands which has as a result that there are longer afternoons here in Spain. The way people Spanish people welcome their guests is very comforting and warm, this was very nice in the first few days to help you settle here. The biggest surprise I didn't expect to go that fast is the speed you learn Spanish. This goes really fast because it's impossible to communicate with your host-parents in English. After a month now I can have small chats and talk about the Netherlands in Spanish.

    2. My experience in Spain (second month)

After two months being here in Spain things start to feel like home and the times of dinner, long afternoons and all the other differences that Spain has, start to get normal. Now that I´m getting used to all the differences are getting normal, I start to notice other special things and start to make a lot of friends. This might also happen because I´m getting better at speaking Spanish and this makes it easier to communicate with my classmate.   Untill now this exchange prgramm as brought me more than I had ever thought.

While the end starts to near, I´m starting to realize that I actually have a short amount of time left and this makers my enjoy every moment of speaking Spanish mixed with English, eating a 10:00 P.M. and the moments of confusement which are generated by the language barrier.    I´m also surprised that I´m still not feeling homesick, I think that I´m just really enjoying it here... My bond with Rubén is getting on really well and I´m really seeing forward to welcoming him in the Netherlands and showing him all the different special spots.

School is going really well here in Spain! I´m really enjoying following lessons in Spanish and my level of Spanish is experiencing a rapid increase in vocabulary and grammar. Courses like geography, physics and mathematics really help me with improving my skill in the Spanish language.
