Mapping the World for Peace and Non-Violence
Using a political mapa mundi and a selection of approximately 50 quotations on peace and non-violence I would like to organise an activity with 2nd year secondary school students (aged 13). The map would be placed in the centre of the playground with students standing around it in a circle. Each student would hold a coloured sheet of paper with a quotation on it. Students would be grouped according to continents and coloured strings (one colour for each of the seven continents) would link the quotes – and the students – to the point on the map that the author of the quote comes from. A photo taken from above would show how ideas for peace have come from all the inhabited continents.
In class the students that have been studying geography in English in a CLIL context will a) Find where each author comes from b) their 'nationality' and c) the country and city where they were born.
Ideas, suggestions and feedback most welcome
