Mannequin Challenge for Global Peace Project organized by Serrat i Bonastre High School

  • Ref:   Presentation of Quotaions on Non-Violence and Peace for Mannequin Challenge

We recorded a mannequin challenge with our four classes of 1st year secondary school pupils at Serrat i Bonastre aged 12 using the slides of the presentation containing quotations about non-violence and peace I have prepared and we are sharing with you.

Please find enclosed the Google presentation containing a selection of quotations regarding non-violence and peace to be used in the mannequin challenge for Non-Violence and Peace School Day. I have also thought of using the presentation for a class on civics and ethics and also for a geography class. I will disscuss and share the materials for the other two classes in a different post and website.

The video is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FaXWRfFePQ

The presentation is available at https://goo.gl/gdQ8U8. It is also embedded on https://sites.google.com/a/xtec.cat/teresa-naves/inputs/peace/peace-celebrations/Jan30-school-day-of-non-violence-and-peace/sib-peace-non-violence-mannequin-challenge and on https://sites.google.com/a/xtec.cat/teresa-naves/inputs/peace/naves-peace-materials/selection-peace-quotations

There are 33 slides so far. It is still work in progress but can already be used for the purpose I had in mind. They contain 27 quotations and two works of art, the Dove by Picasso and The Non-violence (the knotted revolver) by Carl Fredrik Resuterswärd. BTW, can you think of other well-known works of art dealing with peace and non-violence from your countries? If so, please share them with us). I have selected very well known quotations from Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mandela but also from writers, politicians, journalists, actors, comedians, educators, teachers, historians as well as from a selection of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and UN Peace Ambassadors. I have selected quotations with pictures of the author only. I have not included singers although I was tempted. I thought that more than quotes, they deserve lines from their songs. I thought of Bob Dylan but in the end I did not include him either. I have done my best to balance them in terms of gender. I have tried to include mention of different types of violence: racism, xenophobia, sexism and domestic violence, homophobia, bullying, etc. I feel I have not succeeded in including a quotation against bullying or mobbing as forms of violence however.

Feel free to copy and edit the presentation I have prepared and shared with all of you. You might want to use some of the slides and translate the quotation to your mother tongues. I have translated the quotes from English into Catalan. All I am asking in return is that you also share with us the adapted version of your presentation.

I would like to invite older students to include their favourite quotes about peace and non-violence and I will then change the credits on the first slide.

On Wednesday December 7th we recorded the Peace Mannequin Challenge. .

Ideas, suggestions and feedback most welcome

    Best wishes
