Czech Christmas Customs and traditions

  • Dear partners, we are happy to share Czech Christmas traditions with you all :-)

Younger pupils would like to share with you these own pictures and traditions "

We always buy christmas presents to our family and friends before Christmas.

Czech Mums usually bake special christmas cookies called "cukroví" before Christmas.

Czech children believe that Baby Jesus (Ježíšek) delivers presents under the Christmas tree.

People usually buy and decorate real Christmas tree (pine tree, fir or spruce) and place it in the living room.

We have Christmas dinner alltogether on 24th December in the evening. We usually eat fish soup, potatoe salad and fried fish (mostly carp). After that we get presents.

We often sing Christmas carols after dinner.

There are a lot of Christmas traditions :

We often cut the apple - if there is a star in the middle you will be happy and healthy :-)

    Pupils from Polešovice :

We also put a carp´s scale under the plate and later to the vallet to have a lot of money next year.

At midnight people usually go to the Church to sing some carols a to listen to mass.

On 25th December we usually visit our relatives :-)

We hope you like Czech traditions :
