Testing hard water

    We also used soap solution to test the hardness of water. Our school lab wasn't large enough and we used largr one. my students liked studying there andd together we had good times. it was enjoyable and they learned by doing which is more useful.

    Part B - The Hardness of water

    Procedure :

    1. Rinse and fill a clean burette to the zero mark standard 0.01 M EDTA. Be sure there are no bubbles in the tip of the burette.
    2. Using a 10.0mL pipette with bulb, ad 10.0mL of Hepar water to a250mL erlenmeyer flask along with 20mL of the ammonia buffer and about 6-8 drops of the eriochrome black T indicator.
    3. Mix by slowly drop by drop until the red color turns blue. As soon asas it turns blue shut off the stop cock. Record the mls of EDTA you added. If the solution is already blue, record 0mls added.

    Our team was helped by some some of my collegues to carry out the experiments. Students liked working in the lab  - they are used to it because now they are finishing their  certificate papers for graduation.
