5th International Night Half Marathon of Thessaloniki

The 5th International Night Half Marathon of Thessaloniki took place on Saturday 08th of October, 2016. The organization is the only one of its kind in Greece and includes two races:
• the Half Marathon Race 21.095m
• the 5.000m Race.
More than 15,000 runners took part in the 3rd International Night Half Marathon which was held on Saturday, October 18th, 2014.
Considering the 58% increase concerning the participants in relation to the 2nd International Night Half Marathon and the dynamics of the International Marathon "ALEXANDER THE GREAT" which was conducted on Sunday, April 6th, 2014 with 13,932 runners, we expect that the participation in the 4th Night Half Marathon will surpass the amount of 20,000 runners!
Besides the athletic profile of the organization, the parallel events create a social, environmental and touristic character, aspiring to make Thessaloniki the center of sports and tourism during autumn and the perfect destination for visitors both from Greece and abroad.

 

THE EXPERIENCE
As a participant of the 5th half night marathon I feel that it was such a privilege to be a part of this event. It was an amazing experience to be there and enjoy a night in the center of Thessaloniki with other people and no cars. I was surprisingly surrounded by people full of energy, ready to compete, not the other participants but their own selves to manage reaching the finish line of the marathon.This lively background was completed with the mild weather of the day, ideal for a happening like this. I feel really grateful to be one of those citizens who left their comfort zone behind and supported an excellent idea like this one.
