The Episode: 'Strangers on a (Dublin) Train- How to get started.

  •

To get students into the episode we wanted to work on,  and to get them ready to write, we followed these steps:

    1. First, we 'Set sail' with a song!

(important: students don't know what they are getting into!! No info on the Series so far, just a song!)

We started with the song that opens up every episode of the series... It is a simple and catchy song. Would the students guess the right ending for each of the lines? We gave them this exercise and we let them figure out the possible end, bearing in mind rhyme, rhythm, meaning and sense of the line... It was fun!!

Fancy listening to the song? Did you guess the right endings?

2-  Then, we started talking about love and about TRAIN TRAVEL, to get them into the topic.

3- And finaly,  we read a tiny story from the New York Times!

(important: students  still don't know what they are getting into!! No info on the Series so far, just a tiny love story to talk about)

And we discussed the story together:

And we wondered, if this story had been turned into an episode of some Series, would the end  have been any different? Here's what we discussed. At this point, we mention the Series and the episode we will all watch:
