Assessment of the whole project

  • HOW THE PROJECT WAS BORN

What triggered the idea of this project was a talk between friends and colleagues at EOI Hospitalet  (Jose Mª Martín and Griselda Paltor) and beyond the walls of the school (Rose Wolfson and Griselda Paltor). We all love series and are used to sharing materials and activities and  tend to have similar teaching styles. So, basically, this project came out of the need to collaborate and share, which is already a good starting point for any project.

The amazing thing was that out of one of the proposals for working on the episodes of the series came this whole project, which shows that going deep into one same topic can provide excellent results. At EOI Hospitalet we had already heard of Escuelas Amigas for some time and wanted to get involved with them. So, we tried our luck and contacted Laura Escribano to see if our idea for a project was adequate for Escuelas Amigas:  we were gladly surprised to discover that the very same Laura Escribano, founder of Escuelas Amigas, was also doing B2.2 and loved our idea of the project so much so that she decided to get involved ;-)) At this point, our idea became a Escuelas Amigas Project, and to balance out the number of students and to ease the exchange of narratives between schools we got one third EOI involved: EOI Girona, thanks to Ana Isabel Fernández's involvement.

This slide offers a quick summary of the whole process:

CHALLENGES AND DIFFICULTIES WE HAD TO FACE

Although the seeds for total success had been sown, starting a project which came out of  FRIENDSHIP and a COLLABORATIVE APPROACH,  we had to face a string of bad luck. Perhaps it's the nature of 'love', not always smooth sailing, and often a bumpy ride,  that made us encounter a series of misfortunes, which put some strain on the team: two long sick leaves at different times of the project,  an uneven number of students participating (way beyond what we had foreseen), two teachers dropping out of the project, shortly before giving closure to the first part, a clear difference between Catalunya and Navarra,  when it comes to recognizing a National eTwinning Project (Navarra gives credits for innovation and Catalunya offers no recognition at all).

All in all, our sail was not easy, one could say, but  then again just as love rejoices in finding its own way,  so did our project, which made its way through the bumps and came out victoriously. The students who took part in the project enjoyed it enormously and could clearly notice the impact it had in their command of the written and oral language.

The four teachers in the project admitted that they would love to repeat the experience with the students without the pressure of deadlines and the extra comittment the editing of a project in TwinSpace requires.

At EOI Hospitalet, it was our first time working with Escuelas Amigas, and it will not be our last ;-)) Laura Escribano and Griselda Paltor, the two survivors in this bumpy ride,  consider it's a great idea to share projects through both Escuelas Amigas and eTwinning channels to disseminate them properly and reach a wider audience.
