STUDENTS WORKING ON THIS ACTIVITY:
Activity 2
Materials needed:
- Black, Blue, Yellow, and Red colored straws
- Scissors
- White heavy paper (to create the Mondrian art example)
Print the Piet Mondrian PDF file, invite the students to use colored straws to construct the Mondrian art example on the printable. Open discussion by showing the kids a picture of Piet Mondrian’s Composition with Red, Yellow and Blue and asking the following questions: Why do you think Piet Mondrian left white spaces in his artwork? Do you like the painting and why? Remind students they do not have to like an artist’s work, but they must always show respect for the artist in their responses.
ITALIAN ARTWORKS
SPANISH ARTWORK
Due to the lack of time because in Spain we had to apply for Quality Label before May 9th, Spanish students have created only one collaborative artwork designed on Mondrian's style using straws. As it was so difficult to find coloured straws, they brought black and white ones and they coloured them using the pattern.
All Spanish students have collaborated in this artwork and they have designed everithing from the beginning until the end.
Good job, boys and girls!!
