Week 2: Experiences with racism

  • This week the work in international mixed groups finally starts. We will share our experiences about racism in our countries.

    • First of all, don't be afraid. It will be a very good experience!
    • And concerning your English skills, never mind. You will improve them. ;-)

Before starting, please, see this videos and explain your feelings about them:

    (You can activate english subtitles).

    What is Systemic Racism?

This video shows how racism shows up in our lives across institutions and society: Wealth Gap, Employment, Housing Discrimination, Government Surveillance, Incarceration, Drug Arrests, Immigration Arrests, Infant Mortality… yes, systemic racism is really a thing.

    Task 1:

    1. Please share your research results of the last week. Discuss them and point out if something like that could also happen in your country.

    2. Work together on the material (1) about "Intention and Effect of Acts".

    3. Did you experience similar situations? Listen to the stories of the others and point out if something like that could also happen in your country.

    4. Watch the clips and discuss them. Then work on the material (2) about "Racism" and write a definition about it. Imagine you were supposed to write an article about it in a youth journal.

    5. Then, check out the pages "MicroRacism" and "I´m not racist, half the story". Can you think about some kind of action to show how racism work in your environment?

In Homework 02 page, you can write and upload your results.
