MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

  • Howard Gardner’s work around multiple intelligences has had a profound impact on thinking and practice in education.

Howard Gardner initially formulated a list of seven intelligences. His listing was provisional. The first two have been typically valued in schools; the next three are usually associated with the arts; and the final two are what Howard Gardner called ‘personal intelligences’ (Gardner 1999: 41-43).

    1. Linguistic Intelligence.

    2. Logical-mathematical intelligence.

    3. Musical intelligence.

    4. Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence.

    5. Spatial intelligence.

6.Interpersonal intelligence is concerned with the capacity to understand the intentions, motivations and desires of other people.

    7. Intrapersonal intelligence entails the capacity to understand oneself, to appreciate one’s feelings, fears and motivations.

We use these intelligences with the students in all of our projects.
