How to prepare a simulated job interview (ideally with internationally mixed groups)
- students research job offers from their fiels of interest
- if you have vocational students encourage them to take one from their field of studies
- job offers should be in English
- jobs offered should be in another country (i.e. the EU)
- give input how to analyse a job offer
- what to pay attention to in ordert o refer back to it in your letter of application or during the job interview
- requirements (qualifications needed, work experience akes for etc)
- desired skills (language skills, professional skills, social skills needed)
- tasks and duties (what you’ll have to do)
- preparing the documents for a job interview
- preparation of a cover letter and CV or a personal brand
- preparing for the interview
- practising with the help of common interview questions
- help less confident students by choosing a couple of questions prior to the interview
- they can prepare answers and practise pronunciation and speaking freely
- the interview
- organise a spacious room
- organise a separate room for preparation and reflection
- the procedure (*CEO doesn’t need to be a teacher, only in assessment
P4: prepare or reflect on your performance
- have a timetable ready
- students fill in their names in rotating positions in the different time slots provided by the teacher/organiser of the interview
- start with the first combination
- the first applicant, CEO, interviewer and observer take a seat and conduct the interview
- the person on position 4 goes into the preparation room
- the applicant hands his documents to the interviewer and CEO, they ask questions on the basis of the documents
- if a special needs student prepared specific questions it is necessary that he or she hands his or her selection of prepared questions to the interviewing party, too
- after the interview there should be 5 minutes time for reflection and feedback on the basis of the observation sheet and everyone’s impression
- additionally a “hired” or “try again” post it can be issued to the applicants
