Erasmus+: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in France December 2015

  • On Monday, pupils and teachers visited Rameau school and the organization of the French educational system.

Pupils and Teachers discovered a funny exhibition at the school library called « Moins 7 % »

In the environment of a small supermarket filled with products made for the occasion, they discovered information about our daily consumption practices and learn the gestures and tricks to reduce the negative impacts of our consumption.

To buy better, to sort, to rent, to repair, to give, to avoid the waste of food, to compost, to cook seasonal products, to garden without pesticides...

    Activities at school

Pupils also created handmade decorations using recycled materials for Christmas .

Another group of pupils took part to an art workshop with Mr Kelle, the art teacher; Using old books from the school library, that they transformed into cement boxes ; then inside the boxes they put some leaves, twigs, and pine cones …The idea is that books kill trees, city kills nature, so it was like a kind of burial for mother nature…

In an another workshop with Mr Kelle, pupils made some placards with utopian slogans written in their own language to promote the protection of the environment, and then performed a kind of demonstration.

Artistic activities found an echo in Erwin Wurm's exhibition at the FRAC (Fonds régional d'art contemporain). This Austrian artist makes some « one minute sculptures »  and « clothes sculptures »: it is an artistic performance about our consumption of the clothes. http://www.erwinwurm.at/artworks.html

    Visits

Teachers visited the « Elitys tower ». This tower in the center of Dijon is designed to produce more energy than it consumes thanks to photovoltaic panels installed on the roof to use solar energy. The front of the building is made of wood, insulation made of cellulose wadding and large glazed surfaces limiting the use of artificial lighting. The Elitys tower is an example to use technology for a better gestion of energy : htpp://www.elithis.fr/realisation/tour-elithis/

Teachersand pupils also visited Infineo : a recycling plant for the plastic bottles. The visit explains the circular economy of packaging, waste recycling and the second life of material : how bottles we throw can become new bottles. This factory is financed by Coca-Cola : its goal is to reduce by one third the carbon footprint of its beverages by 2020. Before the visit of the factory, pupils watched a film explaining the evolution of the french legislation allowingPlastic Recycling into food plastic.

A sportive event for fraternity in Europe

On Friday, December 18, was the occasion to commemorate the Christmas truce observed a century ago in some northern trenches of Europe.

Each pupil and each participating teacher had on his shirt the name of a football player who was a soldier in World War One. The teams were drawn by lot and represented one of the belligerent nations. The result of the tournament is anecdotal, solidarity and peace being the only winners.

A circus performance was presented by Richard Dorme and his circus department pupils this show was about aliens coming on earth to help humans to reduce pollution and find a better way to live together.
