Erasmus+ Enrichment and Mathematics “Wastebusters” Food Waste Project

Wastebusters food waste project was created by the Erasmus+ Enrichment group to raise awareness of food waste in our school cafeteria. They challenged all MYP (grades 6-10) classes to weigh their food waste over 4 days. It was a friendly competition to raise awareness of the amount of food (in kg) we waste each week and a motivation for all classes to reduce waste. The Erasmus+ students were responsible for compiling the results.

In mathematics, the 7v class collaborated with the Erasmus+ Enrichment group to present these results in both visually appealing and statistically accurate ways. 7v was working with statistics and created Infographic posters to display and summarise the results for each class in pairs. This connection to real life helped to enrich learning and student engagement in the mathematics classroom while making a strong visual for the food waste produced by SIS students.
