(Blog) How to take advantage of water...

  • Welcome

As the Spanish role in this project is showing you how we take advantage from the lack of water, we've decided to show you some of the inventions which started to make our lives much easier in the past centuries. Some of them are very representative of our area.

    CHAPTER 3 The Hydroelectric Dams

We've got many of these dams in Zamora. Probably Ricobayo is the most representative:

Due to the pandemic, we couldn't visit this dam and its laboratory:

Hydroelectric power - how it works:

The dam stores lots of water behind it in the reservoir. ... Gravity causes it to fall through the penstock inside the dam. At the end of the penstock there is a turbine propellor, which is turned by the moving water. The shaft from the turbine goes up into the generator, which produces the power.

    CHAPTER 2 The Watermills

"Las Aceñas", or watermills, were very important in our area in the past centuries. They are hydraulic mechanical engines which took advantage of the river's force in order to ease different works: production of flour, watering the fields or wool production.

We still have five different watermill groups in Zamora, some of them in ruin state but others have been restored and can even be visited and learn about their functional purpose.

Here you can watch some videos about how they worked and their current state.

Next, here you have more information - taken from a touristic brochure - about how they worked (in English).

    CHAPTER 1 The Toilet

    The toilet history.

We'll dedicate this first 'entry' to one of the most revolutionary and innovative inventions of all time. We suppose you'll all laugh about our idea, but you'll stop considering this as a joke if you watch the following video...

How to use water at home responsibly.

Since our project deals with good practice, we encourage you to fulfill this survey and calculate how much water you and your family spend/waste at home per day.

Please enter Water Footprint Calculator and concern yourself and your family about spending water responsibly.

Please notice that survey was designed for the US only, so feel free to cheat the app and select any US state as your geographical backgrounds! Also notice about the different measure system!

And of cours, please comment your results in the discussion forum!

Check this video and learn how to save water with every flush.

IMPORTANT: Don't try it at home without parental supervision.

Please visit the following video about this young inventor.

    Toilet time is fun!

We always wonder why we don't learn toilet vocabulary every time we study  vocabulary about the house; so enjoy yourself and and learn, although these videos may seem too childish!
