    CATALONIA -SPAIN

iNSTITUT Francesc Macia opened in 1966. Then it was an extension of the Institut Jaume Balmes, but eventually took on its own personality. The names were changed according to the circumstances of each moment (Instituto Nacional, Instituto Mixto, INB ...), until the early eighties, after a process of democratic change of name, the majority of the community education chose the current name of the famous patrician Francesc Macia, president Catalan.
In more than forty years have formed within the classroom and thousands of citizens of Lower Cornella Llobregat, and some people have become notorious in all areas, and we are honored human capital: professionals, artists, sportsmen high-level political and public positions as councilors, mayors, deputies, ministers and even the President of the Generalitat.
The tradition and style of the center is to train students to demand respect and offering them the best resources available to us for their preparation, both academic and human. Centre multidisciplinary study of science and letters governs the operation, despite the social changes and the various curricula.
This results in awards that students and teachers have accumulated; Only in recent years have earned the City Cornellà Humanities Award, several prizes CIRIT mention of peace, work samples Research of City Hall, writing "The taste for reading" or Cobega, kangaroo math, participation in the First Lego League international English and French Youth and Science program, Enginycat, and so on.

The Institute summarizes the past years with the aim of providing a satisfying and exceeded the targets set. We have the desire to face the future with the same energy, or even more, as a public center that meets the needs of the city of Cornellà, surpassing the initial differences of social status or origin.

We intend that the Institute is a place where students who want to be able to satisfy his desire, and have heard words like respect, responsibility, demand, education and coexistence.

    SCHOOL PROFILE

Hello we are all glad to take part in this project. Some information about our school:

The Experimental Lyceum of Agioi Anargyroi was founded in 1994. It is located in the west side of Athens, a 25-minute drive from the International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, offering easy access to world-famous historic landmarks such as the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, the Archaeological Museum and so on.

In close distance there is one of the biggest parks of Athens, the environmental park of Antonis Tritsis, many basketball and tennis courts and one football court. In our school we don’t have much space for physical education lessons. Sports take place in the school yard  such as basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, dancing (inside) and many more.

The school aims to offer high quality education and provide training faculties with practical training in teaching methodology and in education in general by means of mentoring schemes. It also holds model tutorials for students and teachers as well as seminars, conferences and teacher training programs.

Each year 82 new students are admitted to the 1st class of senior high school after undertaking the entrance exams in June or taking part to a draw. 246 students attend this school. There is a staff complement of 25 teachers, who have been appointed for a 5-year period after an evaluation process that takes into consideration their qualifications and a personal interview.

The school runs weekly cultural, environmental and sports clubs as it bestows emphasis on these areas. Furthermore, students and teachers are encouraged to participate in European programs (i.e. Da Vinci, e-twinning, Comenius) and have gained extensive relevant experience.  Unfortunately its been a long time since our school participated in such European programs.

In the following videos and presentations we students of first grade present you our school, our city, our class and the area our school is located so we can know eachother better. We hope you enjoy it and we await for your comments!!

    Our School

Our school is in Athens, Attiki, Greece, at Ipitou 15, Plaka, in the centre of the old historical
neighbourhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis,
incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. Plaka (Πλάκα) is the historic heart of Athens, located to the north of the Acropolis. Next to Plaka are the
districts of Monastiraki (Μοναστηρακι) and Thissio (Θησείο), popular with tourists and Athenians alike.
Today Plaka is a tourist destination, a coffee break for locals, a food and shopping district, busy
everyday, night and day and has a lot of attractions, museums, neoclassical mansions and houses with
    roofs from red tiles.

The history of 1st Experimental Lyceum of Athens“Gennadeio”
coincides chronologically with the first pages of Greek Independence
    History:
    ● In 1828, Ioannis Kapodistrias, first Governor of Greece, founded the
“Central School” in Egina, a school for the teachers to be in the
newly established Greek State. This Central School under the
direction of important and famous teachers, like Gennadios, was
flourishing up to the year 1831 and was transferred in Athens, first
at the house of Kleanthis in Plaka in 1935 and later at our building.
    ● Since 1984, 1st Lyceum of Athens functions as a mixed Lyceum for
both boys and girls 15-18years old.
    ● In 1993, it was decided to name it “Gennadeion Lyceum” in honor of
Geοrge Gennadeios, who served as a teacher and a school director
who made the name of the school well known for its students
    achievements.

The school building is a small
neoclassic building of two floors with a small basketball and volleyball court & 2 table tennis.
