  • International Women in Science Day II

The project's purpose is to promote women's equal participation and access to science, to remove prejudices about science as a male discipline, and to create opportunities for as many girls as possible to reach leadership positions. Through active participation in this project, we show respect for women every day.

Integrating the project with the curriculum

    • Information, expression, and commenting about concepts, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and facts, both verbally and in writing
    • Improving pupils' research, information gathering, analytical, and synthesis skills.
    • Turning their ideas into action, improving their abilities to plan and manage projects in order to meet objectives, and innovating.
    • Using information and communication technology (ICT) in a responsible and critical manner.
    • Using knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts, for example, distance learning.
    • Development of self-confidence through STEM education.
    • Respect for others, teamwork, group decision-making, and problem-solving.
    • The study of the life and works of some women scientists from different scientific is integrated in the subject Civic education.

    Activities

Students celebrate International Women in Science Day through research, various activities, the use of Web 2.0 tools, collaboration, and fun.

You can see our activities here.

We use the Bitmoji tool to introduce ourselves. As members of the Young Activists Club, we have chosen avatars with the students that represent them as young people fighting for their rights or for equal representation of girls and boys in science.

Using the tool class tools / breaking news, the students as young activists emphasized the part for equal access of women in science, as one of the important goals of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, using various images to mark this day, presenting them as more popular news.

We used Photofunia to represent famous women scientists. Each student chose a scientist and sought an appropriate effect to represent them in an interesting way.

We researched online and tried to find information on as many women scientists as possible. We wrote their names in WordArt and created different images. Then we made a poster and a common video of the activities.

Every woman scientist has left at least one wise thought in her life. The students researched it and put the wise thoughts of the women scientists in the Canvas tool and made posters.

Celebrating the International Women's Day in Science, it is very important to mention and mark the International Women's Day, March 8. In addition to the story of women who have fought for women's rights throughout history, students with the help of the greetings island tool created greeting cards with which they thanked and wished a happy women's day. These are cards made by students:

The students selected a female scientist and highlighted what each of them is known for and placed it in a joint book. Here you can see what teamwork looks likeStroyjumper

We used the jamboard tool to introduce some of the women mathematicians and to mark the International Day of Mathematicians. Here is our teamwork in Jamoboard and a common video of the activities is here.

One of the activities within the project "International Women in Science II" was realized using the tool Linoit. We realized the activity together with the students - members of the club Magnolija. This club works under the leadership of the teacher Tatjana Loshkoska.

Each student, according to a plan previously made by the teachers, posted a text about a famous female scientist on the collaboration board. You can see our collaborative board at the following link.

Our collaborative activity resulted in the creation of an e-newspaper about famous female scientists.

Students love playing Kahoot! They had a great time and successfully finished the game about famous female scientists. Our activities are here.

We created a collaborative video with the activities during the project.

Students filled out a survey about the project.
