Rajna Aleksova, the first female pharmacist in Macedonia and the Balkans
"...Over the decades, centuries, earthly things disappear, and the true meanings and values remain, which by their nature are essential..." Rajna Aleksova (1883-1959)
Rajna Aleksova breaks down stereotypes in the Ottoman Empire as an educated and experienced pharmacist who does not give up her profession. Born in Bitola, on the eve of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the young Rajna, more than 100 years ago, was set to realize her ambition. From an early age, she had a strong desire and love for intellectualism and professionalism, which are the main features of her biography.
She survived the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the turbulent years of the Young Turk Revolution, the Balkan Wars, the First and Second World Wars, experienced injustice in socialist Macedonia, and died a violent death at home.
