International Women in Science Day II
The project's purpose is to promote women's equal participation and access to science, to remove prejudices about science as a male discipline, and to create opportunities for as many girls as possible to reach leadership positions. Through active participation in this project, we show respect for women every day.
Integrating the project with the curriculum
- Information, expression, and commenting about concepts, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and facts, both verbally and in writing
- Improving pupils' research, information gathering, analytical, and synthesis skills.
- Turning their ideas into action, improving their abilities to plan and manage projects in order to meet objectives, and innovating.
- Using information and communication technology (ICT) in a responsible and critical manner.
- Using knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts, for example, distance learning.
- Development of self-confidence through STEM education.
- Respect for others, teamwork, group decision-making, and problem-solving.
- The study of the lives and works of some women scientists in the field of biology and medicine is integrated into the subjects: Natural Sciences and Biology.
Activities
Students celebrate International Women in Science Day through research, various activities, the use of Web 2.0 tools, collaboration, and fun.
You can see our activities here.
To introduce ourselves, we created Bitmoji avatars. Despite the fact that we want to promote science as an equal discipline between boys and girls, we especially love nature and care for the environment. As members of the club of ecologists "Magnolia", we decided to present ourselves in the project with eco avatars. If you'd like to meet us, please click here.
We researched online and tried to find information on as many women scientists as possible. We wrote their names in WordArt and created different images. Then we made a poster and a common video of the activities. You can see all our activities here.
Each student chose a female scientist, for whom he/she searched for pictures online. Then, using the PhotoFunia tool, the students made pictures with interesting effects. We had fun looking for the right effect from the many possibilities offered by the tool! Take a look at the following link.
We were interested in learning more about a certain female scientist. Each student researched and used the Breaking News tool to write specific data about the woman scientist. The tool allowed us to be news presenters, so we used the creations, recorded the news aloud, and made a collaborative video. All the activities are here.
Canva is a great tool that offers numerous opportunities. We used it to make newspapers and posters for a particular female scientist. Our activities in Canva are here.

Although not every woman in the world is a scientist, that does not mean women should not be respected every day. Our mothers may not be scientists, but we need to respect and love them every day. We expressed our love and respect by making greeting cards in Greetings Island on the occasion of International Women's Day. These are cards made by students:
Our activities in Greetings Island are here.
We celebrated International Nurses Day. We used the Jigsaw Planet tool and completed the picture of Florence Nightingale (our activities are here).
One of the activities within the project "International Women in Science II" was realized using the tool Linoit. We realized the activity together with the students - members of the club Young Activists. This club works under the leadership of the teacher Jovanka Andjelkoska.
Each student, according to a plan previously made by the teachers, posted a text about a famous female scientist on the collaboration board. You can see our collaborative board at the following link.
Our collaborative activity resulted in the creation of an e-newspaper about famous female scientists.

Students love playing Kahoot! They had a great time and successfully finished the game about famous female scientists. Our activities are here.
We created a collaborative video with the activities during the project.
Students filled out a survey about the project.
