day 2 - working together on the stage play

  • day 2: Working together on our stage play

    (Tuesday, 3rd of May 2022)

The second day was dedicated to the completion of the product on which we had already worked together online for more than a half year - our stage play which, from this day on, should have the title "EURODYSSEIA - sailing the sea of time".

We started, however, with a TOWN RALLYE which made us familiar with the history of Wilhelmshaven and brought us from the centre to our school.

The first station was a stone with a mysterious inscription. Is it French or German? Or Latin?

The next part brought us to the neo-gotic Christus- and Garnison-Church. An exhibition told about the history of the church as church for the navy and about "Licht und Schatten" (light and shadow) - about the need of conscience and responsibility, even and especially in times of danger and darkness.

a piano next to the parish rooms of the Christus- and Garnison-church also catched our attention:

On our tour we passed statues of some persons. Who could it be? The students had to use their mobile phones to find out.

left: Wilhelm I after whom the town Wilhelmshaven has got its name     middle: prince Adalbert, founder of the Prussian fleet and of a naval base which was the origin of the town Wilhelmshaven  right: the unknown dockworker

and who might be this guy? (on the "Bismarck-Platz")

Back at school we started our THEATRE WORK.

First of all: the main "character" of our play needed a name. We had collected suggestions online and now the voting began. From now on, the ship that leads us frome scene to scene has the name EURODYSSEIA. Other suggestions had been Telephassa, Beatrix, Argo, ...

Theatre games made us ready for entering the stage; everyone had the script with the text which we had written in local groups and, online on the TwinSpace, together; but we were curious to see the "national scenes", that will show the times and places where the "main characters" of our story are going to land on board the ship.

    We devided in groups again.

One group was for those characters who are going to be on stage during the whole play (six "children", each one played by one student of each country; the "supervillain" called Greatspeare and the "real villain" in the background, a lady named Malatrix). Two other groups added the feedback to the national scenes into the script and collected ideas about improvements. Because the national part was quite tricky: on the one hand, the scenes were in the national language and the "main characters" who "stranded" in these scenes had to guess to which place (and time) they had come, getting some hints (e.g. a "leaning tower" in Italy; oh, Pisa...). On the other hand, the audience should understand what the acting of the "national" persons was about. Together, we realized that we had to make several changes and improvements. A busy discussion started!

And then, there was also the creation of  PROJECT NEWSPAPER ARTICLES...

As this was the first meeting in our project (one and a half years after the project had started), there were also some participant who didn't mainly have taken part in the theatre activity during the last months, but had focused on other activities on the project. These students made a group of their own: the newspaper group. Guided by two young teachers from Germany, they collected first impressions of all participants, made interviews and informed about the meeting. Here, too, the students worked together in small multilateral "reporter teams" and wrote down their articles in the computer lab. Our first project newspaper came into being!

After some hours of intense work, it was time for our little CULTURAL EVENT in the evening:

Every partnerschool had brought some smal typical dishes (sweets, cheese, sausage, ...) and prepared a typical game or dance. In the evening, we presented and explained these things and had a nice international evening together :-) Hmmm, delicious!

cheese and cookies from France, combinded with "Rote Grütze mit Vanillesauce" from North Germany

Laure and Marius from Rumilly tell us about their dishes

Very special: the Greek olives: They were cultivated and prepared by the headmaster of our Greek partnerschool himself!
