Kastelli School is located in Oulu, northern Finland. In our school we have grades from 1-9 and about 800 students. The secondary level (grades 7-9) has 455 students and the primary level (grades 1-6) has 350 students. Our school employs 57 teachers, 2 principals and 9 assistantteachers. Kastelli School operates in Kastelli´s multifunctional building, which consists of nursery, comprehensive school, and upper secondary school for youth and adults, library and youth facilities. Total number of daily users is around 2, 000 persons – excluding sports events, then the number is even bigger!

The building is new, completed in 2014. We have modern facilities and technology that we can use in teaching and learning.

Our school has special sport classes for grades 3-9. Students studying in sports classes have applied for our school from all over Oulu and sometimes their school trip can be up to 25 km. Sportiness is visible in our school e.g. as large gyms used also by many sports clubs in the evenings. About half of our students are studying in sport classes.

We are involved in project called ‘Turvallinen Oulu’ (Safe Oulu). One aim of the project is to increase online safety of young people. With the help of the project material and this Erasmus project, we believe that we will be more capable of meeting the needs of the students in this area. Involving students in this project will bring more impact and content related to cyber security.

With the new curriculum, Finnish schools are investing in multi-disciplinarity, and we have taken digital security as a learning entity in grades 7-9.
