Title: What do the children from OOU “Lazo Angelovski” want?

This year our school celebrated the school patron day with numerous activities. One of these activities was the musical called “We, the children want…” performed by the school Drama club.

The children began the preparations for the musical in October 2019, starting with the idea and writing of the text for the musical, assigning and sharing the roles, selecting the right songs, making the scenery, selecting the costumes, etc. As the students say, on the rehearsals, besides a lot of fun, there was also a lot of serious work. They had two to three rehearsals a week, which lasted from an hour to an hour and a half. A big part in the musical, besides the students, had the teachers: Kostadinka Popovska (Macedonian language teacher), Blagica Angelovska (School librarian) and Tanja Krstevska (Music teacher). The young actors welcomed the numerous advices and criticism from them.

A group of members from the Drama club wrote the drama text with several corrections from the mentors. The songs for the musical were selected with the help of the music teacher Tanja Krstevska. The stage scenery, the costumes, as well as the sound system for the musical was taken care by some of the students. 40 Drama club members (grades 7th through 9th) took part in the musical, as well as some 1st graders. In addition, more than 50 students were involved as extras.

The participants in this musical say that this task was something new and unprecedented for and that they would gladly carry out many more such projects.

The musical was performed on 31.10.2019 in the school assembly hall. A large audience was present and they were impressed by the professionalism of the young actors. They say they enjoyed the songs and the scenes presented by the students in the musical, which managed to take them back to their youth days.

Title: Is the comic book an assigned reading?

Subtitle: The seventh graders from OOU “Lazo Angelovski”, adapted the book “Siljan the Stork” as a comic

The Macedonian language teacher, Valentina Petrova, had an idea for the seventh graders to adapt the book “Siljan the Stork” as a comic book. They adapted this book using the https://makebeliefscomix.com website where comics can be made.

The students say that they enjoyed it, but also it was a little stressful for them, because according to them, they didn’t have enough time to finish the comics, and also the tablets were running slow.

“We like making comics very much and we felt very good doing them, but there was one problem: 40 minutes that we had in class weren’t enough to finish the comics. However, we had a great time doing them.” – said one of the students.

It was an interesting coincidence that in the week when the students were doing the comics, teachers from our sister school from Turkey came for a visit in our school. The teachers attended a few of the classes and it was interesting to them to see how much the students enjoyed what they were doing.
