Sunday Day 4

  •

We visited the European stork village, Čigoč. The village is located along the Sava river, on a floodplain that is protected as the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park. Traditional houses and the way of life of people have been preserved, which enables the survival of the population of storks and other wetland birds, fish and amphibians, insects, to live in the area and thus preserve biodiversity. The people of this area have a traditional breeding of autochthonous pigs, horses, and cows.

Croatia is one of the European countries with the richest ichthyofauna and flora, and the city of Karlovac is known for its four rivers, Korana, Kupa, Mrežnica and Dobra. AQUATIKA – freshwater aquarium Karlovac, is a tourist attraction based on the biodiversity of Karlovac's rivers and lakes and the rich tradition of life on these rivers. We enjoyed the tour, we learned a lot from our curators about the life of fish in fresh water, about the development cycles of insects, about the migration of fish and the interconnectedness of organisms in and around rivers. We talked about our project discoveries and completed our knowledge. The project was co-financed from the European Fund for Regional Development within the operational program "Regional Competitiveness" 2007-20013.
