Saturday Day 3

  • We have organized for our guests a pleasant trip to the Krka National Park and the city of Zadar. Krka is a karst river that builds travertine barriers on its way to the Adriatic Sea. During the trip, we all sang national, popular songs together and had a good time.

Our guide, Zdenko, told us about the natural and cultural sights of the Krka River and the surrounding towns. The way of life of local people and the use of the Krka River for everyday life while preserving the sustainability and biodiversity of the aquatic habitat.

The first hydroelectric power plant in Croatia, designed by Nikola Tesla, was installed on Krka. Thanks to Nikola Tesla's patents, and certainly thanks to the mayor of Šibenik, Ante Šupuk, and engineer Vjekoslav Meichsner, the second oldest hydroelectric power plant in the world and the first in Europe started operating in 1895: Hydroelectric power station "Krka" - Šibenik (later called Jaruga I).

Struja sa slapova Krke osvijetlila Šibenik – 28. kolovoza 1895.

In Zadar, we visited the old town and the main street Kalelarga and Salutation to the Sun, the work of award-winning Zadar architect Nikola Bašić, which is located on the western part of the waterfront next to the Sea Organ. We sat down, rested and enjoyed the sounds of the sea and the beauty of the sunset.
