1.FIRST HIKING

  • ESTONIA

The first-year students of Sauga Basic School went on a study and hiking trip to Lake Rae. They walked on a hiking trail in a picturesque natural environment, played great games and listened to the guide. They quietly listened to the nature sounds and it turned out to be a pleasant exercise. The children saw the traces of the animals' activities, got acquainted with the different habits of forest dwellers and their traces. Much attention was also paid to plant research. There was a small picnic in the forest. After the picnic, it was made sure that no rubbish was left in the wild. The students took part in a slightly different lesson in science, where they could get to know nature with all their senses.

    GREECE

Following the hiking in Fourni in October (during the first transnational meeting of the Project in Crete, Greece), our hiking group managed to complete just one more hiking activity near the village of Profitis Ilias in Heraklion.

Profitis Ilias lies below the imposing rock of Rocca. Rocca is believed to be the Acropolis of the ancient city of Lykastos, mentioned by Homer.

Visitors can admire the surviving fortication of the Venetian settlement and ruins of Venetian churches.

The following Covid-19 crisis severely affected our hiking activities. We were forced to cancell all hiking trips and activities that had been scheduled for springtime.

However, just before lockdown was implemented, our hiking group managed to attend a seminar on First Aid. An executive staff member of the local Red Cross branch visisted our school and introduced the principles that guide the work of the International Federation of Red Cross.

He focused on protective equipment and appropriate organization to prevent accidents and injuries during hiking trips. First aid procedures were presented and clarified. Our students practised and participated in first aid scenarios.

We are hoping that we will have the opportunity to restart our hiking activities during the following school year commencing in September!

    MARTINIQUE

    PORTUGAL

Here in Barquinha we can discover public art along the paths of the Artejo project. Not too far from our school (D. Maria II) there is a wall with a painting called Sophia. The name Artejo is the combination of the word art and Tejo, the river that passes by our town.

In Vila Nova da Barquinha every year on the 13th of June there is a great fair its name is Feira do Tejo, where everyone can talk, eat, drink and meet their friends. There are some small businesses selling clothes and other things, in addition we have folklore shows.

Vila Nova da Barquinha has a good thing, a lot of plant life and still has quite a bit but not as much as in the past due to the pollution and deforestation that every area on the world. I am going to talk about the main types of trees in the area.
The most commons are stone pine trees, then maritime pine trees and lastly willows but there are a bunch more other types like olive trees.
