Weekly Market in Flensburg/DE spring 2016, 1st part

  • The weekly market in Flensburg

    The market as a whole

The market has got ca. 30 stands.

It takes place on Saturday and on Wednesday from 7.30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on both days.

About 1000 people visit the market on one day. The vendours said that on Saturday there are more visitors than on Wednesday.

The people said that the goods are fresher than in the supermarket and because of that, they buy the things on the weekly market and not in the supermarket.

They go to the market because they can meet friends there and it`s more interesting than in the supermarket.

There are other weekly markets in Harrislee, Kappeln, Niebüll, Handewitt, Schleswig, Süderbrarup and Leck.

On the market are fresh herbs, plants and a lot of honey.

    Vegetables and fruits I

For our weekly market project, we had the theme ,,Vegetables and fruit“. We went to the Südermarkt and asked at our stand the questions that we had got.

Strawberries cost 4 Euro for 2 packages and come from Oldenburg in North-Germany. Asparagus cost 5 Euro for one kilo and come from Hamburg. Radishes cost 60 cent for one bond and come from North-Germany.

Most of what we found out is about potatoes. Maybe because we are potatoes, but that is not so important here. If you want to store them right, you have to store them in a cold room without light. For one kilo you have to pay 1 Euro and 40 cent.

With strawberries you can make a fruit salad and with asparagus you can make a 3 course menu. With radishes you can make a healthy salad and with potatoes you can make a potatoe casserole.

As an extra we asked the customers why they bought the vegetables on the weekly market and not in the supermarket. They answered that the products are fresher and don`t come from countries which are far away. The fact that they can choose vegetables of a certain size is also important for the people who buy their vegetables on the weekly market.

    The bakery stand

The bakery on the weekly market is relatively small but fine. They offer many delicious baked goods such as: French bread, chilled cake and crispy cookies. The cakes are cooled during storage and they are also cooled in the stand. The price of the cakes begins at 1,49 €. The marzipan cake costs 6,49 €, which is quite a proud price. The bread starts at 0,40 cents. A whole grain bread and a grain to grain bread cost 3,33 €. The flour comes from the region. There are no pre-mixes and no enzyme-enriched ingredients in the bakery products. In the rolls there is repeatedly fermented wheat added which improves the natural baking quality of wheat.

It is worthwhile to spend your money here.

    The Cheese counter

The cheese counter at the weekly market in Flensburg has cheese from Germany, especially the north of Germany, the Netherlands and France. The cheapest cheese is Gouda for 1.49 € for 100 g, the most expensive one is Coeuf de Neufchate for 5.90 € for 100 g. But you can buy most of the cheese for 2-3 euros, for example the German-manufactured Wild Bernd, Fabro or Chevrotin. These cheeses are all organic and made from milk of happy animals. The animals live on green meadows.
