    In the following page you’ll find the main key words that can be useful talking about soil pollution, recycling and renewable energy. They have a definition just to make the children know their meaning.

    Every partner will translate them in each local language.

    In this way we are going to create a sort of “European” phrase book that will enable our five schools to be united and cooperating in this kind of project.

    Children will be asked to read these definitions and they will work on them.

    Is the process of decaying or rotting

     

     

    Disposable

     

    Designed for or capable of being thrown away after being used

     

    energy conservation

     

     

     

    The prevention of the wasteful use of energy, especially in order to ensure its continuing availability.

    Energy consumption

     

    The amount of energy or power used.

     

     

    multiple use packaging

     

     

    It is manufactured of durable materials and is specifically designed for multiple uses.

     

    natural resources

     

     

    The resources that exist without actions of humankind.

     

    Nuclear energy

     

     

    Τhe energy released during nuclear fission or fusion

     

    Reduction

     

     

    Τhe action or fact of making something smaller or less in amount, degree, or size.

     

    renewable energy sources: solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, wave energy, biomass.

     

    It is a natural energy which does not have a limited supply

     

     

    Reuse

     

     

    The action or practice of using an item, whether for its original purpose (conventional reuse) or to fulfil a different function.

    Oil spills

     

     

    The release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment, especially the marine ecosystem, due to human activity

    Any garbage, refuse, sludge from a wastewater treatment plant, water supply treatment plant, or air pollution control facility

     

    Tides

     

     

     

     

    The alternate rising and falling of the sea, usually twice in each lunar day at a particular place, due to the attraction of the moon and sun.

    The activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal.

    Soil pollution

     

     

     

    The presence of toxic chemicals (pollutants or contaminants) in soil, in high enough concentrations to pose a risk to human health.

     

    Pesticides
