Required materials:
- transparent adhesive tape ( sellotape)
- two sheets of paper ( A4)
- four small clean containers ( plastic cups or yoghurt containers)
- four sticks ( poles) about 1m long ( anything to put the cup above the ground)
- pins (there may be small nails)
- scissors
- magnifying glass
Course of experience:
Attach a plastic container to each pole by pinning the bottom with a pin. On top of each container, stretch and attach a strip of adhesive tape with the sticky side up. Leave the poles in several locations, e.g. next to a busy road, in a park, in the woods, next to the house, at school, in the garden, etc. If it is possible, you can mount the set in a high building on different floors, e.g. on the ground floor and on the 3rd or 4th floor (the higher the better). Mark the location of the measuring points on the map (Google Maps can be used). After a week, remove the strips from the containers and stick them side by side on a piece of paper. Dont forget to write down where each strip comes from. On a second sheet, stick a fresh piece of tape. This will be a control sample to compare the results. Look through the magnifying glass on the strips of tape on both pages.
Describe what you can see. Write down the conclusions.
Bring to Poland the results of the experiments ( a printed map with marked measuring points and two sheets of paper with the pieces of tape stuck on) and your conclusions ( 2-3 sentences comparing the place and the amount of the dust/pollution particles on the strips of adhesive tape).
