    The scale of lichens by means of this scale can be used to assess the level of pollution in a given area by observing the types of lichen mold. Lichens act as a bioindicator. Only lichens growing on a tree bark are used. They absorb water directly from precipitation.  If there are green lichens in the area, it means that there is a very high level of pollution in the area.
