About Water...in the Álvaro velho School.

The importance of water in the life of the planet is of such magnitude, as it is an essential element for the survival of animals and plants on earth. In this sense, when water is lacking, life is threatened as water is the source of life on the planet.

Invasive and exotic plants have been a major problem in Portugal and Europe. These species propagate rapidly preventing native species from developing.

This year we have already joined with a volunteer associations. One in the river to remove hyacinth from water and another in a local forest, helping to fight the acacia.

The water hyacinth spreads rapidly across the river covering it and our mission was to remove it.

Then we had a debate about food packaging and plastic bottles.
Our students were very concerned and decided to take action and change their habits to preserve water.
The students promised they would bring a metal water canteen to school to fight plastic for a more sustainable planet.

The students reflected about clean water for everyone. Nowadays the lack of water in the world becomes a global problem. The students read the European Water Letter. Students became more aware of taking steps in their daily lives to save water and not pollute. They saw a movie and had a debate. Then, they wrote a letter together.
