Publiczna Szkoła Podstawowa im. Jana Pawła II is a state primary school situated in a disadvantaged rural area not far from Częstochowa and Opole. It is a rather small school composed of 9 primary and 2 kindergarten units. We have about 180 students and 28 teachers. Our students start at the age of 7 and finish when they are 15 then they go to either comprehensive or vocational schools. Our students come from several villages around our school. Due to economical changes occurring in the region, most students’ parents are continually changing their professional profile from agriculture to other alternatives. We have minority of students from quite well-off families as well as a majority of those less economically privileged, some of them at risk of social exclusion (including pupils with special educational needs). Usually this inequality means fewer after school activities for them, no language courses, finally less interesting holidays. We are constantly trying to enrich our educational offer, also by introducing some pedagogical innovations, taking part in different teacher training events (in Poland and abroad) or getting involved in other initiatives. We try to give our students chances to develop and present their talents by organising various projects and contests at school and taking part in similar events at other schools. We find this project particularly relevant to pupils, parents and teachers. We hope it will enhance the feeling of being European and at the same time teach them healthy lifestyle. We would like to: - teach students healthy lifestyle - stimulate the use of foreign languages - give students the opportunity to use the language in real- life communicative situations - use modern technologies as communicative tools (e.g. eTwinning) - better understanding on how to use digital technology as a tool - enhance the European dimension of education thanks to activities between schools in Europe - include the project activities in different subjects' curricula, e.g. English, IT, PE - help students stay connected to the offline world Our school has never participated in the EU granted projects but four teachers have taken part in several Comenius and Erasmus+ projects, both teachers' mobilities and school partnerships in another school (Gimnazjum Publiczne im. A. Wajdy w Rudnikach). Three teachers have experience in organising European exchanges. The teachers in charge have built a strong expertise in planning and organising important issues . Thanks to this project we hope to experience a different way of teaching, for the teachers as well as for the students. We also think that the topic' A Healthier School' is a challenging one and will help us become a better school, with respect to healthy habits, healthy food, healthy leisure activities. We also want the school to a safe space, where students, parents andteachers interact freely and respectfully.
