i. Description

  • Maths everywhere is a project in which the primary focus is on highlighting the most playful aspects of mathematics, which are not always reflected at the school. We realize that many students suffer "Mathematical Anxiety" that is defined as "panic, paralysis and mental disorganization that appears when a subject is required to solve a mathematical problem". The main goal of this project is to reduce this anxiety by increasing the motivation of our students.

The participating students will be between 14 and 16 years old. Nevertheless, there will be activities in which all the students of the school could take part. Moreover, most activities will be worked on by all the students of the groups involved. Many subjects will be included in the project such as Math, English, Economics, Computer Sciences, Music, Technology, Arts, Philosophy, Geography and History, etc.

Five schools will take part in the project. All partners have previous experience in KA219 or KA229 projects and we are all located next to places that have been declared universal heritage by UNESCO. Schools are:

1.- Riga Secondary School No 25. Riga, Latvia.

2.- IIS Enrico Fermi. Montesarchio, Italy.

3.- 1º h Lykeio Iliou. Ilion, Athens, Greece.

    4.- Galatasaray Lisesi. Istanbul, Turkey

    5.- IES Trassierra. Córdoba, Spain

eTwinning platform is an important tool in the development of this project. In the first stages, it has been useful to look for partners, find inspiration and coordination between partners. During the project implementation we will use it for dissemination of the project thanks to the project journal and the web pages and for evaluation.

The main results will be: the creation of a blog about the project, a website with the project contents, an album and video about the meetings, a Maths-Cultural guide about each school environment, posters with biographies of mathematical-philosophers, photo exhibition about maths in our environment, Pythagorean monochords, logical-mathematical games, five mathematics-cultural gymkhanas, tools to measure the mathematical anxiety of students, etc.

The benefits of the project for students and teachers will be many, such as: development of the key competencies, the reduction of  “Mathematical Anxiety”, enjoyment of European cultural heritage, autonomy and self-learning ability and digital, social and citizenship skills development.

The school life and community will be improved during the two years the project. The way in which we work, as well as the relationships between students, teachers and families will change because this experience will allow them to learn about different customs, languages and cultures. This project will also aid the internationalization of the schools
