BILBAO: Report of the PROJECT MEETING(November 2018) & STUDENTS MOBILITY (January 2019)
Criteria for student’s mobility:
- Students ages : 16-19 year old
- 6 students admitted to each mobility from every country
- Intermediate or higher level of English language
- Active participation in the project activities to be carried out in the classroom
- Globally positive marks
- Good inclination for social activities
- Availability to host foreign mates
- AFTER THE PROJECT MEETING IN BILBAO, NOVEMBER 2018
The project aim: stimulating the city to look at itself and at its needs. Through the project, people should be aware of the problems and, also, set possible solutions to the city. The project should set examples to an urban renewal of the city, through a social awareness campaign involving the whole town.
After knowing each teacher the first day, all the teachers started to think about all the possibilities to carry out during the mobility with students, mainly the topics to implement with them. Then, there was a guided tour through the new artistic interventions, and a meeting at Bilboarte which is a center of artistic production, dependent on the Culture Area of City Council. The main objective of Bilboarteis to provide an outstanding professionalization of artists by offering modern equipment and infrastructures. During the next days, the teachers visited the other museums in Bilbao:
- Guggenheim museumwhich allows us to learn about the history of the Guggenheim Museum and explore the modern art it houses, and to admire the impressive architecture of the building designed by Frank Gehry considered one of the most important architectural works of his time.
- STUDENT MOBILITY, JANUARY 2019
The activities carried out during the mobility in Bilbao:
- Official Presentations of the cities at school: Getxo-Bilbao, Reykjavik, Porto and Pistoia. All the participants who worked in a team before the mobility, showed their works to the students of artistic baccalaureate.
January 28th: Presentations (45minutes)
- Two workshops: “La Tourette” & “Folk-Lore” based on new ways to make and see art, in order to create new folkloric characters that represent where everyone comes from. Using different collage technique and working in groups, the students are able to create a new human character to show a city, a region, a country, a neighbour depending on where each person has born. The folk characters which the students have brought are shown in the gym

- Guided tour to see the new artistic interventions through Zorrozaurre area where people can visit different workshops and emblematic places of what was once the area of greatest industrial development in Bilbao, being now one of the artistic activity areas of the city.

January 29th: Industrial route: Presentation of the 6 female figures
- There are 6 teams of 6 students each one: each team represents the female figure from different roles

During the route, the role of these women in the history of Bilbao is taken into account.
- The students took different routes through Bilbao, Getxo and Santurtzi to collect material, photos and drawings related to the female figures that they previously had to study: SAFARI WORKSHOP. The students´ interventions were recorded in photos, audio and video recordings(4h more or less)

The SAFARI WORKSHOP has two goals:

- To interact: Each students has to answer a 10 question questionnaire asking the people and inhabitants of the area. This helps them to visualize the Basque female from different perspectives and to know about the roles they play along the history.
- Guggenheim & Bilboarte: the students had the opportunity to see the exhibitions as well as walking through the most emerging artistic corners of Bilbao and to visit cultural centres in the city.
- The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum: ABC Exposition, guided tour
Over its entire life, the museum has developed an exemplary model in which the general public, local artists and public institutions have all determined its configuration and growth. Its desire to be contemporaneous has been in response to the concerns of the local artistic community.
- Workshop TEGP and Drawing:Plastic graphic techniques classroom where the students work with plastic materials, paint, colour, printing, templates and others.
- Image classroom, where the students work with computers to prepare the graphic material necessary for the subsequent execution of the external intervention. This classroom works on the audio-visual material, editing and assembly of visual and sound recordings of the different activities that are being carried out.

- Each student creates a character and an small story of him or her. (1h 15m)
- Presentation of the characters to the rest of the group (30m)
- All the students link the characters to create another one which portrays the female figure of his or her team (1h15m)
- A performance where all areas of artistic representation merge. From the plastic arts to music and gastronomy, taking a tour through the flavours and sounds of our culture. All this in a staging, cultural festival, with all the members of the group involved in the project and characterized by symbolic elements of our own culture.
- Workshop exhibition through the streets of Getxo, each group explains the work made during the week to the others.
The last day (February 1st ) after showing all the characters, the students and the teachers come to the high school to share information and everything they have lived during the week with the others students, as well as explaining the characters´ stories the students have created along the workshops
