This activity was one of those we had planned for our last mobility in Lecco. Pandemic didn't allow us to meet in person and have better results. Anyway, in spite of a lot of difficulties, we were be able to arrange a virtual mobility to sing together.
For this session we had the original music and the lyrics of the song: “Verso Un Altro Altrove”, composed by the music teacher Dario Canossi from Bertacchi school in Lecco. This song is about an inmigrant’s fears upon arriving at a new destination.
Each group of students from the different schools tried to write a version of each stanza in its own language and then vote for the best version. As a result here is our final multilingual version:
Luf - Verso Un Altro Altrove (folk)
Adelante comandante
questa notte sei distante
il sentiero è del viandante
e il suo dio l'aiuterà
adelante comandante
niente stelle nel sestante
niente vento da levante
quale dio ci guiderà.
Adelante comandante
nelle scarpe del migrante
nelle tasche di chi ha niente
una rosa nascerà
è una lacrima di sangue
levata verso oriente
per rendere più dura
questa stanca civiltà.
Give me another answer, another answer, another answer (x2)
El agua cubre el horizonte,
todo oscuro es el norte,
no queda vida en el monte
¿Qué será de mi destino?
He pagado con la vida
Mi moneda a Caronte.
Yo no huyo, yo camino
Soy el viento clandestino.
Bring me love and sunshine - love and sunshine, love and sunshine (x2)
Give me another answer, another answer, another answer (x2)
Verso un altro altrove, verso dove, verso dove.
Verso un altro altrove. Adelante, Comandante.
With everyone’s input, a new multilingual song was created that was performed on the musical basis of the original song.
When performing the song was a challenge for everyone because the limitations of the google meet connection and the synchronization of all the voices. At the time, many of the students were at home due to the pandemic restrictions. Some sound interferences were produced due to crosstalk between adjacent sound sources but finally we did it. Anyway, thanks to the patience of students and teachers, some kind of collaborative song was recorded:
