Fab Lab, short for "Fabrication Laboratory," is an after school technology club, held within the framework of our SLAM activities. In Fab Lab, students have the opportunity to utilize resources in our developing makers lab through hands-on projects. So far, students have learned 3D design software in order to create Computer Aided Design (CAD) 3D fabrication and print using our 3D printers. Students used the 3D printer to create useful resources for the school, as well as a fully functioning prosthetic hand. The purpose of the club is not only to familiarize students with 21st century tools, but also to allow students to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills. The “makers” movement looks to ignite student curiosity and empower students to learn, apply, create and innovate.
