History of our schoolThe Technical Institute for Surveyors, “G. Galilei”, was founded on October 1, 1964. Over the years the school enlarged with new branches: “Liceo Scientifico” with several specializing courses, “Liceo delle Scienze Umane”, specializing in literature and education.In September 2009 the I.I.S. Galilei and the technical school specializing in agricolture, “Vetrone” were joined.School nameGalileo Galilei, who gives the name to our school, was an important italian polymath, considered the “father of the scientific method”, and even the “father of science”.The Lombards and The Legend of the WitchesThe Lombards were an ancient West Germanic population which invaded Italy in 568. The Lombards soon arrived in northern Italy and after a long siege took over Pavia, which became their capital. From there they began to expand to the south, settling in Spoleto and Benevento, which became the seat an autonomous Longobard Duchy. The Lombards practised pagan cults that have been associated to legend of the witches.The Mathematics National CompetitionThe Mathematics Olympics are an annual competition based on six math problems. The competition is organized in Italy by the Italian Mathematical Union, on behalf of the Ministry of University and Scientific Research,for high school students, up to 20 years of age.The students of our school are very good at Maths competition, they have won the provincial selection.
