    Description:

The second project meeting was held in Belfort, France, from January 13 to January 19 2019. On Monday, all project partners met at Lycee Raul Follerau and first went on guided tour through this school. We were impressed how big this school is and how many special classrooms can be found here including a tailors workshop, technical workshop, warehouse or a small hospital. Besides that we admired a high number of sports facilities such as football pitch, basketball playground or athletic playground. Lycee Raul Follerau also has a big school canteen and a student dormitory. In total, roughly 2000 students attend this school. After this tour, getting to know and ice-breaking activities followed. After lunch a lecture about French media was prepared. During this lecture, we learnt a lot about French TV channels and broadcasting system.

On Tuesday, we started our day with a guided tour of the town centre of Belfort. We finished our exploration at the Chamber of commerce where we got to know the most important firms of this region which are seated in Belfort and are key actors of the local economic development. However, the highlight of this day came later in the evening when we visited the printing company L’est Republican. We had the chance to see how newspapers come into existence, we learnt about the history of printing industry and could compare it with nowadays methods. Then the printing machines started work and the process was visualised. Every visitor got a small present including a piece of newspaper, which we saw on the production line before.

On Wednesday, we concentrated more on the topic media literacy and took part in a lecture and workshop focusing on advertising, copyright laws and gender studies. Students, divided into international teams, explored sexism and gender clichees in advertisements and tried to improve them. It was hard work as everybody had a different view. After this lecture, the students got a task to make a short video persuading people to take part in the election for the European Parliament using their gained knowledge about media in a practical way.

On Thursday, an excursion to a car manufacturing industry PSA was organised. In PSA, Peugeot, Citroen and Opel cars are made. We have learnt that the production process takes 7 hours and this firm is able to produce 2 160 cars a day, most of them on the demand of a particular customer. In the evening, we went to the centre of Belfort to enjoy an international competition in bowling which we really enjoyed.

On the last day, we evaluated the whole project meeting, assessed the four videos which were made, presented suggestion for the project logo and set up tasks which should be done till the next project meeting. We would like to thank the hosts for their hospitality, friendly welcome and nice programme and we are looking forward to the up-coming project meeting in Germany.
