"Monologues across the Aegean Sea"

  • Our school received from the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network (TENet-Gr) the Monologues across the Aegean Sea. It is a book that contains true stories of refugee children who arrived in Greece acompanied. The children narrated their stories during the theatre workshops that aim at the relief of the stress, the sadness, the grief, the trauma that these children go through.

Members of our Erasmus team dealt with these stories 3 years ago, when we first started working on a project about the immigrant crisis in Greece.

These stories made us cry, feel anger, sadness and grief, all the feelings that the refugees must feel. We made then a promise never stop carrying about issues like this.

We are, though, very happy as we are now working with the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network. They know about our project and they send us the books as we are working on the Monologues. People from this network will come to Lemnos to help us prepare a play based on the narrations. We thank them very much and we are waiting for them to come.

A few words about the network and the action (as they appear on their official site):

“it could be me – it could be you” is an awareness raising project, targeting the educational community at large, on refugees and human rights using experiential learning, theatre and educational drama techniques.

The project is organised and implemented in Greece since 2015 by the Hellenic Theatre/Drama & Education Network (TENet-Gr) in association with and the support of UNHCR Greece (UN Agency for Refugees)

The project and its educational material is approved by the Greek Institute of Educational Policy & the Greek Ministry of Education and is accredited by IDEA-International Drama/Theatre & Education Association and approved as an "IDEA Land and Home" project.

In the photos, the pupils from General High School of Lemnos working on the narrations.

In the video, actions conducted by the network and other greek schools.

This action, will be one of the main that will take place next October, when all schools of our Erasmus+ come to Moudros.
