    Vollen school

Vollen school is located in the small village Vollen right by the Oslo fjord, only about half an hour away from Norway's capital, Oslo.

Vollen school is a secondary school for students aged 13 - 16 years old. There are app. 320 students at the school. The 12-13 year old go in the 8th grade, the 13-14  year old go in 9th grade and the 15-16 year old in 10th grade.

We also have a different department for kids who has special needs, called Smia. Smia students have a different school schedule based on their special needs, they also have a lot of creative projects where the students get to use their creative abilities. Vollen is the only school in Asker with these learning abilities for special need students.

We are equipped with technology and furnishings for varied teaching and learning. The location is unique with large sports facilities and in a beautiful open area. All of the students at Vollen have their own Chromebook.

In Asker we have school tournaments between all the secondary schools in our municipality in handball, volleyball, swimming, soccer, basket, floorball and chess.

The students at Vollen are very politically engaged. We have a student council with representatives from every class. Two of the representatives from the 9th grade are chosen to be a part of the youth council with students from other schools in Asker.

Once a year we have an arrangement called ODW (Operation Day’s Work) where all the students earn money for a good cause that are different every year. The organisation is by youth, for youth, which also is the slogan for ODW. This year we sent the money to help youth in Palestine. http://www.od.no/en

We also have arrangement called Kulturuka which translates into cultural week. We choose an activity we want to do for tree days, and join a group of people who want to do the same. At the end of the week, we have a presentation in front of all the students. One of these groups work with raising money for a children’s home in Zambia.
