About Panevėžio 5-oji gimnazija

  • The school is located in the center of Panevėžys, the fifth largest city in Lithuania. Panevėžys is onthe Via Baltica highway, halfway between two capitals of Vilnius (Lithuania) and Riga (Latvia). Theschool was established in 1918. There are 60 teachers and 650 students aged 15-19. The region is somewhat disadvantaged and at present citizens in our region face various economic and socialproblems because there are a lot of unemployed people. In addition to the fact that more and morepeople leave their homes looking for better jobs abroad, children usually stay with their grandparents
or live with only one of their parents. Our staff is regularly trained to maintain high standards, to offera wide range of methodologies and to keep students interested in school activities. In our school weteach C++ programming, Lego robot creation and programming. We could teach all partners:
creation of test, creation of animation films, creation of comics. This year we learn how to teach Appscreation. We have experience how to use ICT in formal and unformal teaching. Math teacher have a experience in CLIL methodology. He teach Math in English. Near our school are University oftechnology (KTU) and at times our students have Physics lessons there. To develop collaborativeprojects and improve the skills of our students, especially in ICT and science, we want to shareexperiences between different education systems across the European Union. Thus we have the
possibility to share the teaching and learning methods of other schools in the European space. Another reason is to involve pupils with limited opportunities in developing European projects for better professional and social development. The school has made a Comenius project "Pollution is
the mind, not the environment!". Thus, the experience gained and the expertise of the people involved will be used. In the period 2016-2018, we participate in the Erasmus + "Reversed School Role" project: Flipped Classroom and teaching through teaching. The key person of this project is
Jolita Stankevičienė (ICT teacher). She was previously involved in the Comenius project. He is the coordinator of the Erasmus + project in our school. It will be supported by English teacher Vladislava Veličkienė, mathematics professor Kazys Karpauskas, astronomy physicist Kęstutis Kulikauskas, art
professor Irena Nemanienė. If Ms. Jolita Stankevičienė can no longer be part of the team, her role will be taken over with all the time and responsibility of any team member. Other people in the project team are Daiva Dapšauskienė (English language teacher) and Alma Rundėnienė. Most school teachers have a methodical skill and work experience of over 10 years. The high level of qualification and work experience allow teachers to be flexible, creative and innovative when they become members of a team participating in the project.
