    Activity plan in Latvia – Riga Secondary School No. 25

     From 6th until 12th of May

    6th of May

    Delegations arrive at:

    Students meet the delegations, which arrive at the Riga Secondary School No. 25 and then bring them home to families. The rest of the evening students get to know each other. Latvians show the neighborhood and nearest shops to their visitors.

    Latvian Teachers bring the guests to dinner. After dinner, guests are taken to the hotel.

     

    7th of May- Welcoming the guests and introducing them to our school's history and Old Riga

    Latvian students are welcoming the guests with flags and applause at the lobby.

    The grand opening at the big hall. Few words from school management. Latvian dance group shows traditional dances and school choir perform popular Latvian folk songs. A speech by the guest delegations. Then the guests are introduced to the activities instruction. Everyone gather to take a group photo.

    Excursion around the school. The students are split up into groups by the lessons they will attend. Our students show the first, second and third floor, school museum and also the school stadium. Then - teachers and students informative meeting at the 28th classroom.

    Tour of the old Riga. Students have prepared information and show the most popular objects in old Riga. Then the guests and hosts have free time, where they explore Riga and Kengarags.

    Teachers meet at the front of Hotel and goes to dinner at Cafe “Ala”.

    8th of May- the first day of work – debates about strategy Europe 2020

     

    9.00

    Meeting at the 28th classroom and talking about the final work of Europe 2020 strategy. Event opening, speech from Dr.oec., LL.M. Dace Kalsone, Secretary of the Fiscal Council. Intro video about Europe’s development – materials are taken from the House of Europe in Brussels Planetarium. Students form groups and are informed about the classrooms and their group leaders and secretary. Students work in five groups. The chairman and secretaries are from Latvia. Every country has their own subject. Finland-Exclusion; Croatia-Immigration; Italy-Sustainable future; Spain-Unemployment. An expert from each country, who has prepared a presentation, puts forth their opinions about their subject.

    First part of group work. Each group listens to the subject of Finland – exclusion.

    11.00-12.20

    Second part of group work and the end discussion. Each group listens to the subject of Croatia- immigration

    The groups come to a conclusion of one suggestion out of the three they have had prepared. The teachers discuss the activities and project summary documentation in the 28th classroom

    Students attend classes in the distribution as they were in the workgroups. They listen and participate in lessons, where there are Latvian students too.

    Latvian students are organizing different kind of sports activities, such as football, basketball, volleyball and other.

    Teachers visit the municipality of Riga, then Academy of Science tower visit- view at Riga from 65m high up.

    Latvian students show the city and spend the rest of the day with their guests. Free time in the evening where the hosts show the guests around Riga a bit more. Some visited parks, some even went outside of Riga to Sigulda – one of the most beautiful little cities in Latvia.

    9th of May- second day of work- debates about strategy 2020

    Meeting at the 28th classroom continuing the work about the Europe 2020 strategy. Short speech from the teachers and good luck wishes. Talks about yesterday debates are held, tips and observations are said. Information about the Europe exam. Māris demonstrates the European exam with his profile, all 20 questions are answered, but the questions are different for everyone. The principle of how to take the exam is shown. Review of the work done on the 8th of May. Work in the same groups.

    9.30– 10.30

    First part of group work. Each group listens to the subject of Italy-Sustainable future.

    10.40-11.40

    Second part of group work. Spain concludes the debates with their subject – Unemployment. After the group discussion about the 4 proposals – 1 from each category, the groups decide on how they would split the budget on these subjects percentage wise. A poster is made from the given materials, which is used on the 10th of May. Secretaries protocol the debates. They plan the budget for the whole work.

    All of the students do the European Exam in the computer science class and then analyze it in the 28th classroom.

    Lunch.

    Students are divided into 2 groups.  They have a trip to the Technical Creation House “Annas 2”. They see a lot of interesting things and enjoy the planetarium.

    Free time. Latvian students show the city and interesting places to go in Riga.

    10th of May- Final work day

    The day is split into two halves – first half of the day - debates, hard work and decision making, the second half of the day – summarising the work, free evening.

    Everyone meets at the 28th classroom and talks about the final work of Europe2020 strategy.

    Gathering in the big hall. The event is hosted by the president of Latvian movement in Europe Andris Gobiņš. The debates are very active, each group defends their ideas and prepositions. A. Gobiņš is a very good host, he was able to get everyone to take part. Students and teachers have activities and debates about the division of the budget.

    Division of the budget. Students vote and make the decision.

    Second part

    Students and teachers meet in school. Firstly, they go to classroom 28th and then to the big hall.

    The closing ceremony’s opening. Žans, Māris, Patrīcija say's few words about this week. A Word to the coordinators of the project from Spain Eduardo Cas about project job.  Word to teachers from Latvia- Tālvaldis Mežis Gita Šulce, Rudīte Liepiņa. Every country gives a speech and gets certificates and gifts and a photo of everyone together

    School dance group “Pasaciņa” teachers the Latvian dances to students and teachers. Latvian folk dances are taught and a surprise Latvian dancers do the national folk dances of other participant countries

    Kristofers explains the rules of the “Kahoot” game, everyone answers questions about Latvia and project.

    The fun continues, for the students and teachers as well. Students stay in the hall for games. Teachers have a final event in Dainuvītes Spalles classroom.

           

    11th of May

    Rest day where in the first half of the day the students visit Jūrmala and the second part where they visit the museum of Daugava on the Isle of Dole.

    Everyone gets introduced to the rules and get to try adventure park "Jūrmalas tarzāns". Everyone could take part in activities that match their physical capabilities

    Free time by the seaside.

    Everyone goes to Doles Island- Museum of Daugava. Here we made a campfire where students could cook marshmallows or sausages. The evening went by pretty quickly with a lot of fun games and talks. The ones who left last were gone only by sundown, altogether spend last evening- play games, eat dinner, take last group pictures, and learn how to fly the drone.

    12th of May- delegations go back to their countries

    Finland delegations meet in school and go to bus station.

    Croatian and Italy’s delegations meet at school and go to the airport. It was hard to say goodbye to our newly made friends who we had made during this past couple of days.

    Spain students meet their teachers at school and spend the day with them.
