    Cravat (Tie)

Croatia is the birthplace of the tie. The word "cravat" / a scarf that is tied around the neck / comes from the French word "cravate" which means croat.

The necktie is a decorative garment that is worn around the neck beneath the collarof silk or some other canvas. The tie is considered to be the original Croatian product and spread to Europe in the 17th century through the Croatian soldiers in the Thirty Years' War, where it became a recognizable fashion detail. The first was accepted by the French, and in their language comes the name of cravate, and later in other European languages with similar names.
