4th transnational project meeting in Greece

  • The 4th transnational project meeting of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Life and Job Skills for Successful Europeans” at the 1st Lyceum of Ierapetra in Crete, Greece, October 8th –12th 2018 

    The week from the 8th to 12th of October 2018 the 1st Lyceum of Ierapetra in Greece, hosted the 4th transnational project meeting of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Life and Job Skills for Successful Europeans”

    With great enthusiasm students and teachers of the school hosted 15 students and 13 teachers from the partner countries, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Austria.

    Arrivals started on Saturday 06/10/2018 and continued on Sunday 07/10/2018 at different times. Teachers stayed at Galaxy Hotel in Ierapetra and the students were picked up by families from the airport.

    On Monday 08/10/2018 the visiting teachers and students attended the official welcoming meeting with the principal, the staff, the representatives of the parents’ and students’ association and the representative of the municipality. They also watched some traditional Cretan dances and the students’ choir. After the coffee break, the ice breaking activities took place and then we had the presentations of Austria, Spain and Cyprus. In the afternoon, both teachers and students had lunch at school which was cooked by the parents of our students. The afternoon was free for shopping/sightseeing and socializing! The teachers had a working dinner to plan and discuss certain issues of the project.    

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    On Tuesday 09/10/2018 everyone in the project came to school to watch the presentations of Portugal, Italy and Greece. Then we all visited the Local Environmental Centre and at 11.00 we did a cycling tour of the city and then we visited the Town Hall and had a meeting with the Mayor. At 14.00 we returned to school. The students went to the host families and the teachers had a working lunch at school which was also cooked and offered by the parents.

     

     

     

     


    In the afternoon we visited St. George’s Cathedral where we all had a marvellous time visiting the workshops, listening to the choir, meeting with Archibishop Kirillos and having dinner, offered by the Archibishop. They were also kind enough to offer us some presents too.

                                          

     On Wednesday 10 /10/2018 we all met at school at 8.00 in the morning and took the bus, which was offered by the Municipality, and headed to Knossos where we visited the Minoan Palaces, admired the Cretan Civilization and had a tour by our Principal Mrs Kontaxaki. After our tour in Knossos we went to Heraklion to visit the magnificent Archaeological Museum. We were all amazed by the exhibits and especially by the murals of Knossos.

     

     

     

     

     

    Early in the afternoon we strolled in the streets of Heraklion, had lunch in a traditional tavern, where we tasted delicious local dishes and then took the bus again to go to Agios Nikolaos. There we took a walk and saw the famous lake and had a coffee. In the evening we returned to Ierapetra

     On Thursday 11/10/2018 students and teachers met at the harbor at 10.30 and boarded in order to go to Chrissi Island (or as we locals call it Donkey Island).There we hiked around the island, swam in the beautiful green-blue waters and visited the small church of Agios Nikolaos and the ruins of a minoan palace. At 5.00 we boarded and returned to Ierapetra. The afternoon was free to rest or have a walk. In the evening all teachers met and had dinner at a traditional tavern in Ierapetra.

     

     

     

     

     


     

     

     

     

     

     

    Friday 12/10/2018 was our last official day. Visiting students came to school with hosting students and attended classes for the first two periods. Then at 10.00 the teachers had a planning and evaluating meeting and at 11.15 we took the bus and visited a greenhouse because greenhouses are the main source of income of our region. The afternoon was free for sightseeing, shopping souvenirs or rest.

    At 20.30 we all met at school for our farewell dinner party. We watched traditional cretan dances from the local group of Mr Kaparakis, the students’ choir sang songs, had dinner which was again cooked and offered by the parents, and danced to traditional songs from all the countries.

    The groups departed at different times on Saturday 13/10/2018, Sunday 14/10/2018

    Thank you all for an awesome week where we all had a great time, we learned about different occupations, we created beautiful memories and made lifelong friendships!!!
