Typical Spanish meals
Breakfast (7:00 – 8:30)
It’s typical to see people eating a bowl of cereals, toasts with jam, honey or butter (specially at weekends when we have more time) or biscuits and a glass of milk. “Magdalenas” (Spanish muffins), fruit or yoghurt are also eaten. If you don’t like milk, you can drink orange juice or chocolate milkshake. Adults usually drink coffee, tea or other brewages.
Mid morning snack (10:30 – 11:30)
This is one of the most important meals in the day, not for what is eaten, but for the social aspect. People meet with friends, specially adults and eat big sandwiches of ham, “sobrasada” (Majorcan sausage) and cheese or a portion of the famous Spanish “tortilla de patatas” (made of eggs and potatoes) and a plate of olives. They drink beer and coffee or tea.
Children at school also eat sandwiches, like the adults, but sometimes they eat breadsticks. This is typical in Castellón. Other snacks can be eaten. Also fruit or biscuits.
Lunchtime is usually from 13:30 to 15h. We usually have a first course, a main dish and finally a dessert. Most adults drink a coffee after lunch.
School finishes at 17h in most schools. Children then take a snack (either sandwiches, fruit or any other pastry or bun product that can be bought at the supermarket).
And supper time takes place from 20h (for younger kids) to 22h. We also have a complete three course supper, although the food is lighter.
The Mediterranean diet and recipes are well known for being healthy. We hope you can enjoy them sometime. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION!!!!
